I've got the green light to post some older work that was NDA on the new site, so I offer a taste of my first ever adventure into the realm of vectorized characters. I think these were done in late 2005 and they taught me a crapload of what not to ever do in Illustrator.

One of them is dressed in a Halloween costume I wore in college, another is loosely based on the (now ex)girlfriend of one of my ex-boyfriends. Not sayin' who is who. ;)

All that's left to do is cut the site into Dreamweaver-friendly chunks and offer a virgin sacrifice to the Gods of web browser compatibility... and maybe an offering to the Gods of java script too. I should have things up mid-week if I don't end up sick or bogged down in freelance this weekend. So enjoy your holiday cookouts, guys X_x

So my two web layouts succumbed to the heat of passion the other night and I woke up to find this wrapped in swaddling cloths on my doorstep... All in all, it's close and I like where it's going. Now comes the hard part of making the resume and contact pages work out. The shop will be an external link and you will be able to by Tampy thongs there ;)

Oh, I also forgot to upload this stuff before - holla back, Chrono Trigger fans!

Finally, this lil character seems to get a lot of reaction out of people - the stewardess on the flight back from London stopped serving her lil cups of soda to look at her and someone special to me also singled her out in my sketchbook. I s'pose she's another (vain) self portrait of me as a kid, but it sure beats the embittered one I did back in 2003.

...and I'm off to bed. Did I mention I also have a sketchbook here? I'm just your average net art whore, playin' all the fields she can ;)

Ok, so the new portfolio site will be up in a couple of weeks, but until then, here is a little slide show of my recent works. Enjoy and drop me a line!

My front page gallery on Conceptart.org just went up! HOLY CRAP!

I couldn't clear the NDAs with Hasbro, so all I had to add up there was some older stuff (which makes me really nervous, I feel so out-ranked up there!). I want to add a couple of my newer pieces up there... any suggestions?

Crap, now I really have to get my website fixed...

Mwahaha, I have stooped to the level of fan art! It ain't Mozart, it's this guy here. or for those of you too lazy to click a link, here's his mug:

This is neither a digital papercut nor a painting, it's something kinda lost in between. I might push this in one direction or the other, or I might just move on to the next idea. Either way, in true idiot fan girl fashion, the man in painting has been sent this image and I pray he doesn't think I'm too retarded. ;)

Showering at the Pond

When our water main burst, I nearly had to shower at the company gym last week. This is why I opted to be smelly for a day instead.

If you are getting tired of the self-indulgent scribbles, I do have a more finished bit of fan art in the works, a homage to the lovely folks at Steamcrow. I have to stop socializing to be able to finish it though and with the weather all super-nice and new friends in my life, that might be difficult for all the right reasons.

Man, looking back at my recent self portraits, you guys must think I'm the most crass, immature and emo little artist... but come on, I worked on a show about a Talking Crime-Fighting Butt. I know the audience is out there somewhere!

Besides, this pic reminds us to look to the little things in life for joy. Especially those of us who act like the last digit of their age (I'll be 7 real soon!) So don't be offended if you recieve this as a "Hi, how have you been?" sort of greeting card in the mail, k? ;)

PugFish Pins!

Drop an email to Cre8vSteph@yahoo.com to order a set. I will love you forever and bake you cookies one day. <3

I've noticed that a set of these cascading down the strap or your purse of backpack passes easily as a gay pride thing. Then again, I do live in San Francisco.

You heard it here first.

Created with photoshop, illustrator and a holiday filled with heartbreak.

I hated sharing.

There was a theme at work to doodle up a "little monster".. i.e. one of those brats that always gets what they want. Me being the narcissistic little person I am, did a self-portrait.

MY PONY.

Picking up pieces slowly, but I do have something more upbeat to show. Consider this the contents of my clogged arteries of creativity over the last couple of months. (heh, get it? Art... ART-eries... ok I suck.)

This is the vector-friendly PugFish. I have buttons and T-shirts in the works. Go on, you know you want one... you know, once I set up my store and all ;)

I was home sick for the Holidays and laid up on my Dad's couch for 3 days with the flu and a broken heart. So what else was there to do but draw what was there in front of me? As for why I didnt watch TV, I'll tell ya... 400 channels and there still ain't nuthin good on (not counting Cartoon Network of course!)

Finally, I have started playing around with "digital papercuts", that is, delicious vector artwork with even more delicious Photoshop effects applied to them to look like cut out paper. This image will be featured in an upcoming issue of Advanced Photoshop Magazine... if you're in the UK, pick me up a copy please ^_~

Also, I am starting a comic relating to yesterday's post, and I admit I am looking rather forward to it. It isn't often that I feel like I have a story to tell, much less feel enthused about it.

More to come soon.

It's been a very difficult month for me.

I'll explain this some day.

Spicy Little Mermaid

My entry for the "Chicks who Draw Chicks" calendar over on conceptart.org. I'm very happy to say that she was (just barely) selected to be Miss June and that she will be printed in the Calendar! Eeeheehee! Imagine FX should be doing a little write-up about the whole competition, so keep your eyes peeled for the next issue!

The Celestial GoldPug:

Centuries of careful inbreeding and the adding of selected contaminants in the breeding pools has brought us the inquisitive Celestial GoldPug. Once a pet reserved for royalty, the Celestial GoldPug, so named for it's skyward-facing eyes, thrives in most any PH of water and makes an excellent first pet for small children. Over the recent decades, however, it has developed an unexplained fear of airplanes and turkey...

The GulperPug, so named because it resembles the gulper eel, inhabits the "twilight zone" of the ocean. It feeds upon stray CuttlePug and carrion, not excluding the occassional WhalePug carcass that drops from the upper oceanic zones. A living specimen has yet to be caught; the following are amateur sketches made on a paper lunch bag by a lucky tuna fisher, who happened to find an expired GulperPug entangled in his nets.

The CuttlePug looks like a bug-eyed UFO when his maw is closed, but come dinner time, he unleashes a mouthful of tentacled fury!

To quote my friend Nick, "Is that the Lovecraft version of Milo and Otis?" Oh, if only it were...

Got the scanner working again, so I can share some more Pugfish madness with you.

I think I have a new recurring character... maybe next crossover will be with a cuttlefish?

Thursday, September 21, 2006

Sorry for the lack of sketch yesterday, I was in training all day for a sprite animation class. Bleh.

ShalI make up for it today by introducing you to one of nature's most understood sea creatures?

This is the pugfish. This is what happens when a pug dog meets a goosefish and both animals are a lil tipsy and lonely. Gentle, noble... adorbaly homely.

Well gang, I've decided to create a blog just for my sketches and brain farts. Always check
Flying Clam finished works and professional goodies, as this blog will be the stomping grounds of quick ideas and experimentation.

And so, I bring you today's sketch of my own two ratties, Popke and Puddin'! We have a sketch-a-day thing at work, and since Flash is so readily available there, a lot of my works will be all vector-y.

See you guys soon!
